I stumbled upon your review while thinking about my own one just now. It is a really well-written one, but I'd prefer it if you thought about the anime more analytically than discussion-like. You seem to be the kind who really knows what they want to say and when they want to say it, I would've loved to see more analysis of the series by you! Less quote-wise, but more wholly review would've been more my type, but I like your style too! Don't think I do not. I like how you've thought about every movement and word the guys and girls have said. Really something to be proud of, this review!

Although my own review is with a totally different style, I would love it if you comment and add your two pence about it here: http://shinigamilist.com/2011/10/23/darker-than-black-a-really-good-combination-of-sci-fi-and-everyday-life-review/

*spoiler alert: contains material from season 2*

The reason I like this series is because a price has to be paid for power. (Fullmetal Alchemist touches up on that but totally breaks down later and turned into junk) The renumerations in a sense makes the contractors more realistic and enforces the theme that humans cannot gain anything without losing something in return.

favourite renumerations:
Louise-breaking fingers
Mina Hazuki (light saber lesbian)-sexual contact with a man
Wei Zhi Jun (emo elf)-spilling blood
November 11-smoking cigs

What I also like about the series is that it shows contactors and dolls evolving.

example:

Wei fighting Hei even though he knew he was going to die.
July choosing to stay with suou
November 11 killing his boss

I can't understand something. In the beginnig when I first saw the episode I thought Hei was in love with Amber but whenever I look for wallpapers of Hei, I see a number of them in which Hei is hugging Yin. So does he like Yin?

Hitler didn't commit genocide for the greater peace, he ultimately was trying to disprove the existence of God. If there's no jewish left to return to the promised land, there alone he could prove there's no jewish god, christian god, or any faiths related...he was also just looking for power and to make a name for himself. He used peoples' anger at the time, and displaced it on a specific group to achieve a much more selfish goal than "greater peace."

Overall, the rest of this blog was pretty decent :-P

[...] Combine that with some good old fashion yakuza backstabbing and underworld power struggles and it makes for a pretty good all around action drama. Also Zwei becomes more and more GARawesome as the series progresses, so by the time this thing is finished he’ll be practically a Hei caliber badass. [...]

I think this is one of, if not the best anime ever created. Anyone else agree that a movie showing Amber's journey through time to create a better future would be extremely interesting?

I only wish you could have blogged the entire series. I feel that you 2 really got the show. This was a very 'adult' show to me with its vagueness and mystery. I think people who are looking for action and a message of "Believe in yourself" don't like this show. These character where confused about themselves, something which I thought was unique. They don't have a clear cut persona and I can relate to that. We are all confused about ourselves. We are all contractors and dolls. I took home a message of "Be yourself no matter what" from this show.

Thank you so much.

Of, course, that is true for plenty of animes. Episodes 13&14 were the best, in my opinion, but I simply want to emphasize that this is an action anime, and we shouldn't look too deep into it

I'm not sure if I agree with you entirely Ubiquitial. Your right that the writers of the series may not have intended anything deeper, but the meaning of the series is left up to the viewers interpretation. They depict a world and show what happens. Whether or not we draw meaning from what happens is entirely up to us. I, however, think that Darker than Black was trying to give a slightly deeper message on the loss of our humanity. I love episodes 13 and 14 that follow Yin who realizes she's sad because she isn't sad. I think there is a lot to be said for Darker than Black even though it's very hard to follow the series jargon at first.
