All hail Hina! Enough said.

I patronise Ristorante Paradiso regularly too and have been pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be a catty, revenge fest Nicoletta vs. Olga with a old men reverse harem topping but it's much more relaxed - great charas and great mood.

Hatsukoi Limited has been a surprise hit with me - it's not very new or clever just delivers well-executed rom-com entertainment without pretension. I'm actually pretty scandalized that I enjoy this series more than Stripey! orz

Hayate Season 2 is definitely on my top 5. They did exactly what the fans wanted: more Hinagiku, more Maria, more Hamster, and less Nagi (I like her too, but we need a taste of the rest of the girls, feelin' me? ;3)

Ristorante Paradiso is also high on my list. Although admittedly, I think I'll forget all about it when its done. It doesn't seem to have that lasting appeal like Aria or other slice-of-life anime. Don't get me wrong, its a great show and also quite relaxing... but... I don't know. Maybe its the men? =S or maybe it needs more violence/cat-fights? =3

@ tj_han

I agree that it works by completely eschewing the battles in favorite of character driven stories, and I enjoy it for that. That said, though, I still would've liked to see some awesome tactical battle scenes that mirrored elements from the actual campaign.

@ Martin

As Kabitzin mentioned, Hatsukoi Limited does still have fanservice, but it's a relatively small amount and is general limited to random pantsu flash.

@ Kabitzin

Yeah, hopefully they'll have at least a couple awesome battle episodes where we get to actually see the squad in action. Also the series needs to have more screentime for Vyse and Freesia.

I prefer VC's development, because you know most of the early battles will be one-sided anyway. Hopefully later important battles will get their due, and by then we will care about the characters fighting in the battles.

HL has fanservice, but usually it's just some pantsu flash on the side instead of 1 minute of setting up for a big pantsu flash.

Explaining Valkyria Chronicles like that makes me more inclined to pick it back up actually. If Hatsukoi Limited is indeed a romcom sans fanservice, maybe I'll enjoy that too...

I actually have Hatsukoi inmy top 5. VC as well. I've since completed VC since my post, the game I mean, and there are quite a few plot twists. The anime seems to be going outs of its way to change the plot such that it involves no action, but just character development. Check out episode latest, where mission 8, the hardest mission in the game to both win and kill the ace, got deleted andinstead turned into a mere blizzard. I'll actually do prefer such conversions, rather than lousy representations of the battles. We also saw the Selvaria backstory.
