Someone Needs to Make a Saki RPG

Seriously. With all the ridiculous metaphorical battle cutscenes they’ve been throwing at us, someone needs to make this happen soon.
We might as well all get it over with and make an action RPG out of this thing. Or maybe an over the top fantasy battle anime spin-off series. Think Sengoku Basara but minus all the bromance, with crazy loli yuri action instead, a la Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Yeah, BRB – gonna go pitch the idea to the Gonzo execs and see if we can get the ball rollin’ on this thing.
I mean, they’ve already teased us with this:

This:

This:

And even this:

And now in episode 17, this:

At the very least I think they owe the fans some cool looking battle costumed figures, and perhaps a fight themed omake episode or two.
I mean, Koromo is straight up Higurashi style there, what with the frilly summer dress and unnecessarily large bladed weapon. By the way, I have absolutely no idea what kind of outfit that is that Kana-chan is supposed to be wearing there (tribal princess maybe?)… but regardless, I certainly can’t say that I disapprove.
Oh, also as another side note for those who may not have noticed, the “rune energy shield” thing Nodoka uses in those sequences is supposed to be a giant 1-pin tile (one of circles).

Saki was adapted into a mahjong eroge (read: Nodoka’s fully revealed tits) before this. So in a sense you already had something like a RPG out.
Kana’s class is “Barbarian.” D&D 3rd Edition style.
Maybe a DVD extra could actually include some RPG-style action. That’s what I love about Saki, it doesn’t make any sense. RPG battles or yuri don’t seem to be related with a board game such as mahjong, but hey, im not gonna complain
By the way, what was the name of that mahjong eroge?
Ha! The shield is the 1-pin! Thanks for pointing that out. This anime cracks me up. I would totally watch an action anime based of this.
speaking of nanoha that runic shield, even if it is a 1-pin looks alot like their shields! I love how you got the shot of those ridiculous shadow hands/wings coming out of Amae. Just to throw it out there, i would settle for a saki-themed mahjong game…period. Even if it was just mahjong.
It’s so brainless…so predictable… and so shamelessly over the top it might actually cause nausea…
I’m hooked >.<
Though seriously…the world wouldn't benefit from more Saki…
The concept is hilarious though…just imagine what would happen if they would apply these techniques to express the 'awesome st00f' going on in a park for the elderly…
Massive medieval battles and great slaughter over at the chess tables…
Endless tests of skill at the Pétanque fields and fierce contests of will at the 'duck-staring' benches.
In the end it's just a whole lot of ruckus for a bunch of people who play a silly game. It's quite amazing that they succeed at drawing you in…making you feel like anything actually 'matters'

Heh, not particularly surprisingly, I suppose. Doesn’t really count as an RPG, though. =P

Haha, actually that’s quite a good analogy. What does that make Koromo, though? She’s wearing cloth armor, but also wielding a huge 2-handed melee weapon, and apparently has giant magic demon arms.
Come to think of it, Koromo is pretty dang OP even in this fantasy RPG world!
@ Sergio
If anything, the random battle scenes make the mahjong seem even more awesome. Just like in Akagi or Kaiji, where Fukumoto (the manga author) would make these ridiculous gambling analogies that involved people sinking in quicksand or being chased by demons or whatever.
Good stuff, I love it.
@ Brutain
A friend of mine was watching an episode recently and didn’t understand the symbolism of the energy shield. I was shocked, but I figured if he didn’t catch that subtlety maybe there were others who hadn’t as well.
Good to know I was able to educate at least one person!

I’m sure there eventually will be a Saki mahjong game, probably for the DS or PSP I imagine. Back when Akagi aired there was a GBA mahjong title that featured the Akagi cast.
When you factor in all the cute girls and yuri action, I’m sure a Saki themed mahjong game would be a smash hit,
