It's so ironic that you chose a shot of Kannagi for this, since Kannagi was animated by Yamakan (the former leader of the Haruhi animation team, whose leaving of KyoAni left us with Endless Eight as a result).

"If anything, the Endless Eight story arc only served to reinforce my perception of Yuki as non-human. No regular person could have handled 500 years of repetition like that without going nuts."

Oh, I'd say the Disappearance of SH pretty much proved she snapped just a teeny-tiny bit.

@ girl

From an artistic perspective I'm sure it was interesting to create - different outfits, different ways of re-envisioning the scenes, the angles, the cuts, the timing. I imagine it was a uniquely challenging project for director and artists, to tell the same story so many different ways without recycling animation.

...doesn't mean I have to like it as a viewer, though. :P

@ Drunut

But then, I've never really understood what the Yuki fanboys are so excited about to begin with, so maybe it's just me.

@ ghostlightning

I really liked The Sighs, but that's mainly on the strength of Kyon's incessant commentary. At times sarcastic, at times despondent, his tongue in cheek narration never failed to make me chuckle.

The "Sighs" part of the light novels is when I told myself to give up reading and just wait for the damn shows. It was a terrible read for me, and bored me out of my brains - if indeed this is the part of the literature that has to do with the making of the movie.

While watching the Endless 8, I first thought why they would torture us so. And after much deliberation I came to only one conclusion that could possibly describe their actions (aside from uber trolling). If we were driven insane by only 8 of the 15,532 repetitions, imagine what Yuki must feel like. We all know Yuki remembers every single repetition but the number is so large it doesn't become personal. It becomes a statistic. Now that we have a small, small, small, small, small taste of what she has been going through... I guess it was for character development? I can't find any other reason for this other than to make you sympathize with Yuki.

Though I have to admit I watched every single episode of Endless 8 without any skipping around, and when I watched the final episode I was giddy as a school girl. I had a grin plastered onto my face the rest of the day.

I actually watched them all the way through, but toward the end I was half watching on one monitor while surfing the web on the other.

lol I actually did that too. It's the only way to slave through it without falling asleep. I didn't want to watch everything again but at the same time I didnt want to miss anything new either.

LOL at the pictures! I unequivocally loved CGR2 AND Endless Eight -- and as an artist, I would be thrilled at the opportunity to produce something like Endless Eight. I really find it that interesting, creative, and cool, and encapsulating so much of what I love about anime.

@ fangzhao

The Sighs of Fangzhao? Somehow I get the feeling that story won't move quite as many book sales.

@ Omisynth

Sad, but true I'm afraid. orz

@ frog212

I actually watched them all the way through, but toward the end I was half watching on one monitor while surfing the web on the other.

@ Tenshi

Yeah, I was actually somewhat impressed that they had uniquely recorded dialogue for each episode rather than just recycling the exact same recorded lines over and over.

And by the way, if that's your entire monthly allotment of parentheses... I really hope you never become a programmer.

@ Nekonron

I would love to actually hear a statement from KyoAni someday explaining their logic behind doing this. Their decision to do this really does baffle me.
