It’s so ironic that you chose a shot of Kannagi for this, since Kannagi was animated by Yamakan (the former leader of the Haruhi animation team, whose leaving of KyoAni left us with Endless Eight as a result).

From an artistic perspective I’m sure it was interesting to create – different outfits, different ways of re-envisioning the scenes, the angles, the cuts, the timing. I imagine it was a uniquely challenging project for director and artists, to tell the same story so many different ways without recycling animation.

…doesn’t mean I have to like it as a viewer, though.

But then, I’ve never really understood what the Yuki fanboys are so excited about to begin with, so maybe it’s just me.

I really liked The Sighs, but that’s mainly on the strength of Kyon’s incessant commentary. At times sarcastic, at times despondent, his tongue in cheek narration never failed to make me chuckle.

The “Sighs” part of the light novels is when I told myself to give up reading and just wait for the damn shows. It was a terrible read for me, and bored me out of my brains – if indeed this is the part of the literature that has to do with the making of the movie.
