Responses to Epic Feedback

While variety is the spice and wolf of life, and while we like always mixing things up here, it’s also good to know what kind of content you guys enjoy most.

In our contest last month I asked, among other things, what you wanted to see more of here at Epic Win. Between that and our recent poll, I think I’ve gotten a pretty good idea of what our core audience is looking for. :P Read the rest of this entry »

Every year Hiatus Disease claims the lives of thousands of blogs. In fact, it is the leading cause of blog mortality worldwide.

It can quickly turn fatal if left untreated, and thus should be taken extremely seriously. If you or someone you know may be suffering from Hiatus Disease, don’t wait. Seek professional help immediately.

Fortunately, Hiatus Disease is almost always treatable if diagnosed in time, and the long term impairment effects are usually minimal. Anime Blogger Subspecies

Posted by 0rion on November 6th, 2007 - 2:33 pm

As tj_han recently demonstrated, among the subset of otaku known as “anime bloggers” there exist further subgroups which can be used for classification. Unfortunately, his list omitted a number of significant subtypes, which I feel are important to properly identify.

The same disclaimer applies here - all classifications and examples used in this article are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real persons or blogs is purely coincidental. Even if they have the same name and URL.

The Weeaboo

“ZOMG Japan is t3h CHOU SUGOI! I am more awesomer than u because I have been there and u have not!”

The Weeaboo blogger is a rabid fan of any and all things Japanese. He has usually visited Japan at least once and can speak some measure of Japanese. He declaims passionately about anything related to Japanese culture, and brooks no argument from those who he views as possessing inferior weeaboo qualifications (i.e. - have not personally visited Akihabara). He can frequently be seen employing phrases such as “Well my Japanese friend said that…” or “Actually in Japan it’s like this…”

Epic Win is a classic Weeaboo.

Note that upon reaching level 42, The Weeaboo may evolve into its third stage evolution: Read the rest of this entry »

Blogsturbation

Posted by 0rion on October 8th, 2007 - 10:12 pm

Yes, even Epic Win is not immune to that greatest of cliches, that bane of bloggers everywhere - metablogging.

If you’re a regular, you’ve most likely noticed that our usual routine of posting every 1 - 2 days has slowed over the last week to, well…none. Guff got KO’d by a nasty flu, and I’ve been busy with work, so things here at EW have been pretty quiet. Honestly though, none of the new anime that have aired so far have gotten me really interested yet, so I haven’t exactly been burning with the desire to pen long-winded diatribes on the merits (or lack thereof) of a given show.

The above images are purely for illustrative purposes. Any resemblance to real bloggers, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Instead, I thought I’d take a moment share some thoughts about blogging in general. Despite my earlier disparaging remarks about metablogging, I do often find it interesting to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at some of my favorite sites. Really, metablogging only becomes a problem when it starts taking the place of real blogging. Of course, by talking about metablogging, I’ve fallen to an even lower level… meta-meta-blogging. :P

Anyway, so here we are, two months and 25k pageviews into this whole blogging thing. We’ve learned a few things, but still have a long way to go to achieve “serious business” blog status. Thus, rather than the usual routine of the grizzled veteran blogger sharing wisdom gained from many years in the trenches, I thought it might be interesting to offer my perspective as the fresh-faced new blogger, still enthusiastic and naïve.

Here’s a nice random picture that’s only very loosely related
to what I’m talking about. I’m supposed to put these in
periodically to break up the wall of text, or something.

So a few thoughts: Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to Epic Win Blog!

Posted by 0rion on August 15th, 2007 - 7:00 pm

lol first post kekeke!!

Just kidding.

Welcome to Epic Win Blog and thanks for taking the time to stop by the site. This post marks the official grand opening of what we hope will become an entertaining and informative resource for all your anime and Japan-o-phile related needs, as well as a creative outlet for us to share our interests with all of you. We hope you have as much fun reading our motley commentary as we have in writing it. To learn more about who we are and what this blog is all about, be sure to check out our About page.

Essentially, you’ll find that many of our posts, rather than being written entirely by one author, are instead tag-team efforts in which we go back and forth, both voicing our opinions on the subject at hand.

For the time being we’re planning to blog the following shows:

  • Darker than Black
  • Lucky Star
  • Hayate no Gotoku
  • Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

We’ll also give commentary now and then on other shows that are airing depending on our interest level. Please stick us on your blogroll and drop by again, as we’ll be rolling out new posts on a fairly regular basis.

~ 0rion and Guff
